Transfer day

Sorry its taken me a bit of time to update.  I've been told to "take it easy", so that's exactly what I have been doing.  And today I have decided I need to get back to "work", but felt obligated to post about our Transfer Day beforehand.  Can you tell I am trying to avoid doing our taxes???

Let's Backup.  About a month and a half ago, my Dr. had me do what they call a "Mock Transfer".  It is basically so that they can measure the cervix and figure out how to navigate the catheter into the uterus with no bumbling around or mistakes.  I was supposed to come with a full bladder that day, so that the bladder would push the uterus up so that it can be seen more clearly on the sonogram for navigation purposes.  Apparently I had not done a good enough job with my fluid intake, and they asked me to drink a bit more water on the day of the actual transfer.  "OK, you got it!"

So Monday morning, I spent the whole morning downing water and Gatorade.  I didn't feel too full until I was sitting in the waiting room for half an hour, when all of the sudden it hit.  Despite my panic and desperate pleas to "PLEASE JUST GO GET THE DOCTOR!", Craig remained calm by reading me a boring article out of a magazine in hopes of distracting me.  (Didn't work)   Finally, nurse L arrived, like an Angel to rescue me and my now full bladder!

We spent a bit of time with Dr. B, where he showed us our first pictures of the two little Embryos we would transfer.
Isn't it amazing that something like this becomes a human being!  I mean, seriously God is so creative!  We got a report on our other little Embies.  Many of them had arrested (stopped growing), but as of Monday we had a few little guys/gals make it to freeze. And oddly enough, it was the EXACT number Craig and I had prayed for!

Dr. B explained that the two we were transferring were "good" quality, but not "great" quality.  I have to admit that my heart  sank ever so slightly, because I think probably anyone hopes to hear the BEST news possible.  However, my now aching bladder overshadowed my "slight" disappointment, and I was just ready to get the transfer done!  All I can say about the transfer is that it went very smoothly, despite the uncomfortableness of different Drs pushing on my bladder to get the best picture possible.  Nurse L took a picture after my two babies had been "moved" to their new home, and then she laid the photo on my chest & told me to "Hold them close to my heart, and think about them in their new home!"  I thought it was such a sweet gesture, when I was feeling uncomfortable and a little lonely (Craig had to wait outside) during such a momentous day.
Now the bad part:  After the transfer, I was told I needed to lay there for 10-15 more minutes.  They tilted me back to release the pressure off my bladder a bit, and I honestly kept saying to myself over and over "Only a few minutes!"  After awhile though, I started feeling a sharp pain.  Then it got worse, and eventually started feeling like someone was stabbing me in the stomach over and over!  So my "Hang in there a few minutes!" turned it to "Jesus!  I cannot do this!"  I look over and Craig is mouthing to me through the window, "You CAN do this!"  But by then the pain was so extreme I was just laying there sobbing in this room all by myself.  Turns out I was having Bladder Spasms from an overly full bladder. I felt so bad, because I didn't want to seem like a big baby, but I had never experienced pain like that before.  Nurse L commented that she didn't know how I had held my bladder through that pain and that she probably would have just let it go.  What????  I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS AN OPTION!!

All ended well with a bathroom stop that took well over 2 minutes (I do not lie!), a MacDonalds Big Mac (again, I do NOT lie), and a 3 1/2 hour nap (thank you Valium!).  I have spent the last two days resting, reading, watching movies, and thinking about our babies....praying they nestle in nice and fast!  We are struggling some with fear, but we are so thankful for other people's prayers and their faith that THIS IS IT!  It is a great blessing to us when our faith waivers a bit, to see the faith in others around us!  Its pretty contagious! :)
